Around in 80 Beers Series January 29 2016, 0 Comments

The Around in 80 Beers series is edited by Tim Webb and first appeared in 2006. Using a listing of 80 cafes, restaurants, beer shops, museums, cinemas, whatever... each serving a different top quality beer, the books introduce readers to the underbelly of some of Europe’s best beer-drinking cities and how to get the very best out of their different beer cultures. History, context, pub snacks, tram stops… you name it, we do it. With some damn fine writing to boot.

To date the series has covered LondonAmsterdam, Brussels, Berlin and Bruges, with a new edition of Around Berlin in 80 Beers planned for later this year, along with a new European capital – to be announced.

Amsterdam hits the streets again April 28 2015, 0 Comments

Cogan & Mater is absurdly proud to announce that a new edition of Around Amsterdam in 80 Beers will appear in June 2015 to coincide with the Brett Festival and other Dutch beer celebrations.

Anyone who has followed the developments in Dutch brewing in the last few years, for example through Tim Skelton’s other book, Beer in the Netherlands will not be surprised to hear that this is a total rewrite with almost half the entries replaced and most others significantly updated.

Amsterdam’s beer scene is all but unrecognizable compared to 2012 and edition 2 reflects the massive increase in the number of Amsterdam and new Dutch breweries, along with the big increase in confidence of new-wave Dutch brewers.

Where once Dutch beer meant variants on Heineken and other industrial blond lagers or else infected version of Belgian ales, nowadays it mimics the best of US, UK, German and Belgian brewing, along with an import culture than brings beers in from across North America, Scandinavia, northern Europe and even Japan.

And it’s Amsterdam too.

We will be offering special deals like the Skelton Special doubling up with ‘Beer in the Netherlands’, our New Books deal with ‘Around Brussels in 80 Beers’ or the Three Capitals deal with ‘Around Brussels in 80 Beers’ and ‘Around Berlin in 80 Beers’ (while stocks last). Keep an eye here.
